It is Christmas Eve, and Santa Claus is prepared for his yearly journey from the North Pole to homes across the globe. Upholding a long-standing tradition, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, commonly known as NORAD, will once again monitor Santa's travels as he delivers gifts to children in anticipation of Christmas 2024. An official map will be continuously updated to reflect his current location.
NORAD, the organization tasked with overseeing and safeguarding the airspace of the United States and Canada, has been tracking Santa's movements annually since 1958. Prior to NORAD's involvement, the Continental Air Defense Command managed this initiative for three years.
Here is what you need to know as the tracker follows Santa's journey this Christmas.
Santa's current location can be tracked in real time through NORAD's updated map, which illustrates his journey around the globe. Beginning his travels from the North Pole, he proceeded southward along the Pacific coastline, subsequently crossing through Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe, where he has delivered over 6 billion gifts thus far. After a brief stop in Antarctica, as night descended upon the Western Hemisphere, he continued his route through South America and the Caribbean, then headed north across the Atlantic to Greenland, before entering Canada and the United States.
